Chickapig…wait, what? If you are a Charlottesvillian you know what that means! Created in Charlottesville by locals Brian Calhoun and Dave Matthews (yes, that Dave).
Chickapig is a fun and creative board game; which has become popular to play Tuesday nights at Kardinal Hall. We Inn girls had to go check it out!
On arrival, giant size boards are set up and ready for play. We ordered some local beers, a cheese board, their famous soft pretzel and the special pizza and settled ourselves in. The object of the game is for each player to get their color chickapig across the board and through their goal. First person to get all of their cute wooden pieces through the goal wins! Obstacles include hay bales, a cow and everyone’s favorite…cow poop. There is a lot more strategy to the game then what first meets the eye! We played multiple games until we felt like we got the hang of moving obstacles and chickapigs around, offensively and defensively! Now that we’re “experts,” we can’t wait to go play again.
To me, eating yummy food in a place that has a great, energetic vibe…surrounded by other tables (families, groups of girls, couples) playing the same game and lots and lots of giggles leads to a great night.
Not only was it super fun to play at Kardinal Hall, you can purchase the game to play at home… www.chickapig.com or play at Oakhurst Inn! We house a set in one of our libraries for guests to enjoy. Fun for all ages (kids can never get enough potty humor.) So come rest and relax in front of one of our fireplaces and experience the uniqueness of Chickapig!!
