Inn Girls Go Out – June
Baby it’s hot out there! Options for cooling off… AC, yes… or get on the water!
Charlottesville has quite a few outlets to experience kayaking, tubing, canoeing, and paddle boarding. We inn girls decided to give kayaking a try on the Rivanna River with the Rivanna River Company and we had a blast. The great thing about the Rivanna River is that it is so close to downtown Charlottesville, yet you are shielded from the city by beautiful, mature trees. The river is an oasis of vegetation and animal life (well, we saw turtles) all along the way — not to mention the refreshing and cool water.
The launch was super easy. Once you arrive at the Rivanna River Company location, they shuttle you on a very short trip to the start location. They have the kayaks ready for you in the river, give you detailed instructions, and off you go! It is a very peaceful hour and a half — you can go at your own speed, stop and swim if you’d like, just float, or really paddle for some exercise. We decided to be leisurely and take our time. It gave us a chance to connect with each other while enjoying our surroundings. There are some VERY small rapids, which was fun for our group, and we also noticed people of all ages being able to handle them. About half way through the journey, there is a rocky “beach” where we stopped, had a snack, and swam.
When you reach the final destination, Rivanna River Company is there to help take your kayaks out of the water, and they provide you with cold beverages and a shuttle ride back to your car. The whole experience is relaxing, fun, easy, and a definite repeat. We can’t wait to go again!
