rooms

Three Craftsman-era residences have undergone a careful historic renovation to provide the comforts of a modern hotel (a fourth building offers finely-furnished apartments with full kitchens for stays of one to three months). Seventeen guest rooms and 10 suites feature contemporary American furnishings, vintage hardwood floors, custom-made Queen and King-size beds, luxury linens, and fast, free wi-fi.  Four libraries offer the chance to sit by a fire with a book and a coffee or cocktail from our Bistro Bar.

Location

Directly adjacent to UVA's "South Lawn," Oakhurst Inn is a quarter-mile walk from Scott Stadium and the UVA Health System. Our residential setting in a National Historic District is across the street from the University's Central Grounds, where Thomas Jefferson's famed Lawn and Rotunda comprise a noted UNESCO World Heritage site. A free "trolley" is available for the 1.5-mile trip to historic downtown.

History

History

Dr. Paul Barringer and his family built the boarding houses at 100 & 102 Oakhurst Circle at a time when there were few dormitories for the growing student body. Barringer was founder of UVA Hospital and Chairman of the Faculty before serving as President of Virginia Tech. Upon retiring in 1913 he returned to Charlottesville and lived at 100 Oakhurst while letting extra rooms to medical students. The buildings continued to serve as student housing until the renovation began in 2012.
